The subdivision of Barton Creek is southwest of the downtown Austin area. It covers quite a bit of ground and has a number of smaller, very exclusive subdivisions within it. As the name implies, the creek named Barton Creek flows through the community. As the community of Barton Creek is in the Hill Country and has the creek flowing through it, there are a number of homes with tremendous views. Views can be Hill Country, overlooking Barton Creek or looking out at downtown Austin. Barton Creek also has three golf courses within the community as well as a very nice country club and hotel.
The smaller and very exclusive communities of Mirador and Escala are within the larger community of Barton Creek. Both feature large lots with wonderful views. Homes and home sites with great privacy can also be found in these subdivisions. Many of the homes in these exclusive, gated communities sit behind their own private, gated entrances. It is said that the largest home in Austin, at approximately 41,000 square feet, sits in this small area.
It is not uncommon to have homes priced in the $3 to $5 million range in Barton Creek. Some homes we may never know the value of as they were custom builds or private sales outside of the Austin MLS.
