Well, it is that time again – time for my monthly mailer about another great Austin area place to check out. This is my second such mail-out and I hope this month’s pick is a good one for you.
My December pick of the month is Josie’s Bar and Grill at the Lakeway Spa and Resort. Located in Lakeway and overlooking Lake Travis, Josie’s is a great place to sit back and enjoy a cocktail and a casual meal as the sun sets over Lake Travis.
I first started going to Josie’s back in the late 1980s when I would take my oldest daughter to the pool at what was then the Lakeway Inn. That is where I taught Sarah how to swim. The casual restaurant was nice and you could have food delivered to the pool.
The photo above shows the view from just outside of Josie’s. Photos from inside didn’t turn out well because of reflections off the windows. What you are looking out over is one of the new pools that Dolce put in after renovating the old Lakeway Inn.
Josie’s is open all week and features casual dining until midnight. Josie’s has a pool table, several televisions and trivia network stations. Open to all ages until 6:00PM, Josie’s caters to the over 21 crowd after 6:00PM. It can get a bit loud, but the view is amazing.
To get to Josie’s, go to the Lakeway Spa and Resort, which is located at 101 Lakeway Dr., Austin, TX 78734. Coming from the north you turn on to Lakeway Blvd. off of RM 620. Go past the traffic light in Lakeway and turn right at the stop sign on to Lakeway Drive. Follow Lakeway Dr. to the end and you’re there. Josie’s is in the smaller building to the right of the 5,200 glass ballroom.
From the south you will turn onto RM 620 from Hwy. 71. You can turn left on to Lohman’s Crossing or continue to Lakeway Dr. From Lohman’s, go to the traffic light and turn left on to Lakeway Blvd. From there, follow the same directions as above.
While you are at Josie’s, make sure to take a walk to the new glass ballroom, which you can see below. The top level has balconies that practically hang right over the lake. What a great place for a photo opportunity.
