Georgetown is a city just north of Round Rock and Austin in Williamson County, one of the fastest growing counties in the country. Once a kind of sleepy town, Georgetown is has become much more of a bedroom community to Austin. The 2008 population of Georgetown was just under 50,000 and that is a 75% growth rate since 2000.
Georgetown is home to Southwestern University, a very well respected liberal arts school. The city does have a hospital close to downtown. St. David’s Georgetown Hospital provides medical care for Georgetown and much of Williamson County.
The San Gabriel River runs through Georgetown and has some very nice neighborhoods along it both in the city and in the county. River Chase is a nice community with frontage on the middle fork of the San Gabriel.
Georgetown is also home to a number of golf course communities. Sun City is a huge 55 and older gold community. Cimarron Hills is down Highway 29 a little to the west and is a very nice golf community.
Georgetown is also home to Lake Georgetown, which was built to supply water to Georgetown, Round Rock and some other areas. The lake is also used for recreational purposes.
