Lake Travis Schools

The Lake Travis School District is one of the best school districts in Central Texas.  All schools are rated very highly by the state of Texas.  Lake Travis teachers, as well as the administration and staff, at the elementary schools are fantastic. I have had kids in Lake Travis schools since 1993 and we have had great experiences in every grade.

In December of 2005, Expansion Management Magazine designated the Lake Travis ISD as a Gold Medal district.  This places the Lake Travis ISD in the top 17% of all school districts in the country.  Expansion Management studies more than 2800 school districts around the country each year.  What they are doing is determining how well districts prepare students to enter the work force.  They award an Education Quotient (EQ) score to each district using a scale from 1-99, with 99 being the best.  Expansion Management gave the Lake Travis ISD an EQ of 93.

As far as programs that help the kids prepare for college, there are a number of them.  One is the Institutes of Study, which you can read about HERE.  Another is DECA, which stands for Distributive Education Club of America.  DECA is a national association of marketing students that attracts individuals to productive careers in marketing, management, business and merchandising.  In April, 2011 27 Lake Travis High School (LTHS) students will travel to Orlando, Fla., to participate in the 64th International Career Development Conference.  The students had competed with 5,000 other Texas high school students to make the state DECA team.

In 2010, The Visual Arts Scholastic (VASE) state event saw 27 entries from 26 Lake Travis High School students.  These students competed against around 20,000 students across Texas to make it to state.

The marching band placed 5th in the state 4A marching competition in 2011.

The award winning LTHS Cavalette's drill and dance team has been invited to do an opening number in the 2012 Trounament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, CA.  This is the first time that this parade, one of the most popular and famous in the world, that any high school dance team has done such a thing.

How about sports at the high school level?  In 2011 the LTHS football team won the 4A state championship for the 5th year in a row.  That has never been done before by a school of any significant size.

The LTHS volleyball team took Texas Region 4 champs in 2008.  The girls went an amazing 50-0 and won the state championship in 2011 for the second year in a row and were ranked #1 in the country.

The LTHS boys tennis team won 4A state tennis championship in 2011.  The girls team finished second in state 4A.

The LTHS boys golf team won the state 4A golf championship in 2011.  One of the boys won the individual state title and another finished in second place.

As of 2008, the Varsity girls soccer team has finished as District Champs or better in all but one season since 2000.  This included a Regional Championship (Region 4) in 2007 and a Bi-District Championship in 2008.  The boys soccer team won the Sectional Championship in 2009.

The LTHS cheerleading squad garnered the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Senior and Junior High School National Championship in 2008.

Texas Monthly put 4 of the Lake Travis schools in their list of top public schools in Texas in 2007.  Of the around 8,000 public schools in Texas, only 859 made the list.  The high school is consistently ranked among the top 500 high schools in the country.

The Children at Risk 2010 Texas Public School Rankings places Lake Travis High School and Hudson Bend Middle School as two of the best schools in the greater Austin area.  This area includes Travis and six other neighboring counties.

Prior to getting into real estate, I was a substitute teacher in all of the Lake Travis schools.  I can say first hand that the faculty and staff in all Lake Travis schools are great.  Also, programs in the middle and high schools are excellent.  Music, theater, athletics, FFA and clubs of all kinds provide students with wonderful in-school and after school activities.

In the middle schools and at the high school, students are encouraged to volunteer in the community.  They get service hours for this.  At the high school, students who accumulate 25 or more hours per school year graduate with the prestigious Cavs In Service award.  This looks great on a college application and on a resume.

I have worked with the Lake Travis High School Interact Club as an advisor.  It is amazing to see the kinds of projects that the Interact Club members are involved in.  Most recently, the Interact Club raised money to provide 400 pairs of shoes for orphans in an Indian orphanage.  They also coordinated a book drive that stocked a library in Africa.   The biggest project is The American Cancer Society Relay For Life of Lake Travis, which Interact has sponsored each year.  2011 was the 8th year for Relay For Life of Lake Travis and each year Interact members have held significant positions on the planning committee for the event.

So whether you have kids or are concerned about resale value of a home in the Lake Travis ISD, the schools have a very positive impact on the value of homes in the area.
