Leander is a rapidly growing city in Williamson County just northwest of the city of Austin, TX. The estimated population of Leander in 2008 was just over 25,000 people. Thanks to the addition of toll roads State Highway 183 and State Highway 45, commute time from the largely residential city of Leander into Austin and Round Rock has been dramatically shortened.
Leander borders on the gently rolling plains of Central Texas and the Central Texas Hill Country. In the flatter areas, home building has been relatively inexpensive thanks to what had been inexpensive farms and ranches purchased for development and the economies of scale that larger builders generally enjoy.
In the hills to the west, there is a mix of rural homes on acreage and large master-planned communities like Crystal Falls. The Leander Independent School District serves the area. It is quite large and also serves much of the city of Cedar Park, which is between Leander and Austin. Schools in the Leander/Cedar Park area are considered to be good.
