Tarrytown is an area I have been fascinated with ever since I moved here in 1988. Located west of downtown, Tarrytown is bordered by Mopac Expressway, Lake Austin, Enfield and 35th Street. What was once a neighborhood of quaint, little homes, homes in the area have grown as they have been remodeled and expanded or torn down to make room for a new home on the lot.
Many Tarrytown homes date from the 1940s, but of the newer ones were actually a result of demolishing an old home and replacing it. Tarrytown homes range in size from fewer than 1,000 to over 5,000 square feet. Home prices in Tarrytown, because of proximity to UT and downtown and because of some wonderful remodels and updates risen significantly over the last decade or more.
Because of its location, Tarrytown is just a short drive to places like the Lions Muncipal Golf Course, Reed Park, downtown Austin and Zilker Park. It is also very convenient to the very popluar Lake Austin hot spots of Hula Hut and Mozarts Coffee Roasters.
