West Lake Hills is actually a city just west and southwest of downtown Austin. It has Lake Austin on its eastern border and there are spectacular water front and lake view homes in West Lake Hills. There are also some very dramatic views of downtown Austin in West Lake Hills. If you drive some of the roads in West Lake Hills you will see how rugged the terrain is.
Lake Austin has an elevation of around 492 feet above mean sea level. Mt. Larson in West Lake Hills, just across the lake is closer to 800 feet. This puts some homes in the area as much as 300 feet higher than downtown. If you assume that one story of a building is roughly 10 feet, that makes a 30 story building 300 feet tall. So picture looking a couple of miles across Town Lake at the top of the frost bank tower and being about even with its tallest floor - now that's a view!
West Lake Hills is served by one of the best school districts in the state of Texas, the Eanes Independent School District (ISD). Because of its proximity to downtown and the excellent schools, combined with some awesome views and lake frontage, West Lake Hills contains some of the most expensive homes in the state.
