The city of Georgetown, which is just north of Austin and Round Rock, is making a pretty aggressive expansion move.  It will about 7,200 acres into the city.  The bulk of the land to be annexed is on the east side of Georgetown.  It looks like up to about half of the land will have the new TX 130 running through it.  This move will provide city services to most of the area, which many residents are in favor of.  Other residents aren’t so hot about the annexation because they will be paying city property taxes.

A few years ago the city of Lakeway started annexing land along RM 620.  That was before much of the recent huge growth in the area hit.  Lakeway wanted to have control over what could be built along the highway.  The city probably also had its eye on tax revenue from new businesses that would open along 620 and tax revenue from homes that would be built across the road.  My opinion is that Georgetown is annexing the land along 130 for the same reason.
