J.C. Penny plans a store for Round Rock.  This isn’t necessarily big news for Penny, but it is for Round Rock.  The reason is because the location is one that was nothing more than a simple intersection a few years ago.  The location will be off IH35 at RM1431, which has become a hot bed for all sorts of things.

I helped get a young couple from southern California into a home in Teravista, a great subdivision just east of the intersection of 1431 and 35.  When I showed them the area we all thought big things were in store.  That was because Ikea planned to open its first Austin area store there.  Scott & White, a first-rate hospital system, also planned a location there.  Well, it is all coming together.

Ikea opened just a couple of days ago and the management was stunned with the turn-out.  They knew it would be big, but it was huge.  Scott & White locating at the intersection I thought was interesting.  This is an area in the northeast of Round Rock.  It sits close enough to Georgetown so that people from that city have just a short drive to the new Ikea, hospital and the soon-to-be Penny store.

As Williamson County continues rapid growth to the ease and as TX 130 is constructed, expect big things for this area.  By the way, 1431 when it goes east of 35 is also known as University Blvd.
