Growing Like a Weed
According to the Texas Workforce Commission, Central Texas is looking great. Our regions job growth was 3.1% in the last month of 2006. For the year, we added almost 22,000 jobs. That helps explain the health of the
Austin real estate market. Good job growth and a good real estate market go hand in hand. What is interesting to me is the kind of jobs added. The sectors that added the most job were professional and business services and government. The first includes jobs in engineering and law firms. This is of interest to me because many jobs gained earlier in 2006 were in the service and construction sector. People who work in the professional and service sector tend to be higher paid. They're the ones who are probably driving home sales, especially in the mid to higher price ranges.
