Austin is an interesting city for many reasons.  With land ranging from hills to flat, Austin can be difficult to navigate if you don't know the area.  If you can see downtown, you have a landmark.  If you have any sense of direction you know if you are north, south, east or west of downtown.  If you're on Mopac or IH35, you know that you're going basically either north or south.  If you are in the flat area and can see the hills, you know that they are on the west side of town.  Once you get into the hills, it gets a bit different.  You really need a good map, a good GPS unit or both.  The problem with either is that as the city grows, some streets won't be on a map.  Others won't be found by the GPS device.  Once the 28 story building in the Domain is built, you will have a new landmark in northwest Austin.

If you're new to the area, take a look around.  Remember the landmarks I mentioned above, carry a map and (yes, even you guys) consider stopping and asking for directions!
