Want Golf? Try Lakeway, TX

Does this image tell you something? Perhaps not, but the next one will.

This is the water tower at the Lakeway Blvd. entrance to Lakeway. It is painted to look like a giant golf ball on a blue tee.
Just to the west of Austin on Lake Travis is the city of Lakeway. Once a retirement community pretty far from Austin, Lakeway is now a bedroom community of Austin. It isn't all about golf, but Lakeway certainly is a golfing community.
With four private courses in Lakeway and one public and two more private courses within 15 minutes, there is a lot of golf to be played in and around Lakeway. Within Lakeway are the Youpon and Live Oak golf courses. Built into the hills, these two golf courses offer some challenges, but they are not quite as challenging as the other two golf courses.
The Hills and Flintrock Falls are both Nicklaus designs. They are both challenging and scenic. The Hills technically isn't in the city of Lakeway, but it is surrounded by Lakeway. The Hills and Flintrock Falls are both gated golf communities.

This is the famous waterfall hole on The Hills golf course.

This looks over one hole on the Flintrock Falls golf course and gives a good example of the hills in the area.
Within 5 minutes of Lakeway is the public course Falconhead. I'm told that Falconhead is one of the best public golf courses in the state. Go another 5 minutes and you will find Spanish Oaks, a high end, gated and very private golf community. In the other direction is the University of Texas golf club in Steiner Ranch. This is also private and is home to the UT golf team.
If you want hills, lakes, views and golf and still want to be close to Austin, Lakeway is the place to be.
