Part of what I do with the Lakeway - Lake Travis Rotary Club is act as adviser to a community service club at Lake Travis High School (LTHS) called Interact.

As its international service project for this school year, the Lake Travis High School Interact Club held a two week long coin drive as a fundraiser for Heifer International.  The group raised $1174.69.  The funds will be given to the Rotary Club of Lakeway/Lake Travis Foundation and will then be tripled by the local Rotary Club and Rotary International.  The over $3000 will be used to purchase milk producing water buffalo for a village in India.

Interact has contributed to through Rotary and Heifer International in the past.  The milk produced has been used by people in the Indian village and has also been sold.  Funds from sold milk from donated animals have been used to build an office for milk production equipment and also for several homes for villagers.

Interact has been active at LTHS for over five years and I have been associated with it since it was created.  I have met some absolutely amazing students during this time.  The students who stay in the club the entire school years are in it for the right reason.  They truly have a desire to make a difference.

If you are wondering what Interact has done more locally, they have done quite a bit.  Interact has donated funds to the Red Cross for tsunami victims, hurricane victims, California wildfire victims and has done a number of very local projects.  Each year since its inception, Interact has sponsored the Relay For Life of Lake Travis, a huge American Cancer Society fundraiser.  For the last five years, Interact members have made up more than half of the planning committee for Relay.

I know this has absolutely nothing to do with real estate, but that's OK.  People everywhere need to know that there are kids in local schools who are really making a difference locally and internationally and the kids deserve to be recognized.
