One thing people thinking of relocating to the Austin area need to know about is recreation.  There is a lot to do in and around Austin, but being where it is, Austin is also pretty close to Dallas, Houston and San Antonio.  Those are great destinations for weekend get-aways and there is lots to do in each city.

On Friday I took my daughter to my brother's house in Boerne, which is just north of San Antonio.  My brother, his girls, my daughter and another brother and I went to Six Flags Fiesta Texas.  It was the end of my daughter's spring break and the beginning of the other girls' break.  The park was pretty empty ans we probably rode more rides more times than most visitors get to ride in an entire weekend.

Fiesta Texas was build into a gravel quarry.  The designers of the park did a nice job incorporating rides and other features into the cliffs.  At one point there is a large waterfall cascading from a limestone cliff into a pool of water.  The Rattler, one of the largest wooden roller coasters in the country is build along one of the cliffs and at one point, riders go through a tunnel rising up through the cliff wall.  There is a reason the ride is called the Rattler - it is a pretty jarring ride that will rattle anyone, especially if they are not in good shape.

Of the many rides, the favorite of all seemed to be Superman, a roller coaster that takes riders through a series of loops, spirals and plunges.  If you don't have a fear of heights and rides like this have a sense of adventure, you should ride in the very front row of seats.  There are points during the ride at which you don't see the track when looking down.  Even though the mind knows that you are safe and on a ride, it is a pretty strange sensation looking down as you race toward the earth below.

Then there is the Roadrunner.  This is the easiest roller coaster and I was able to get a video of the ride.  I wouldn't have dared try this on the other coasters as I would have lost the camera and might have hurt someone.  Take a look at the video at the end of this post.

Of course there is more to the park than just rides.  In the summer, the water park is extremly popular.  There are also live shows on outdoor and indoor theaters and stages.  If you plan on going to Fiesta Texas, go online forst and look for coupons.  Sonic also prints coupons on the back of receipts sometimes.  Take plenty of sunscreen, have good walking shoes and drink lots of water when you're there.
