Well, not mine, but...  I was driving down Lakeway Blvd yesterday morning and saw the sprinklers running in the grassy median.  It absolutely poured down rain the previous day and the ground should have been saturated, meaning that any water flowing through the sprinkler heads this morning was being wasted.  Lakeway should spend the money to install moisture sensors in the dirt below the grass.  If the sprinkler system is set to go off twice a week, that is fine.  But if we have had rain and the sensors sense that there is adequate moisture in the soil, the sprinklers shouldn't run.

I was driving through Steiner Ranch a few weeks or so ago when we had high very temperatures and no rain and the sprinkler in a common area was running in the middle of the afternoon.  Steiner Ranch should know better than to do this.  The rate of evaporation in the afternoon is huge compared to the morning.  Watering should be done in the morning or evening when evaporation isn't such an issue.

I have written about water before and I will write about it again.  The lakes around Austin can only provide so much water.  In time of drought, like now, we should conserve.  Simple steps like moisture sensors and watering in the morning can save tons of water, literally.
