Austin 5th in Country at Job Growth
New Mexico Business Weekly published the list of cities in the country that had the best job growth from December, 2007 to December, 2008 and Texas had 4 of the top 5 cities on the list with Austin at #5. The growth was measured in the number of jobs gained, not a percentage, and all other cities in the top 5 were larger than Austin. Seattle was #15 on the list and was the last city to actually gain, rather than lose, jobs with a gain of 200. Cities at the other end of the list included Los Angeles, Chicago and New York City, respectively losing over 59,000, almost 83,000 and over 120,000 jobs respectively. What I would like to see is a corresponding list of home prices. I suspect that some of the biggest losers in terms of home prices were some of the biggest losers of jobs. All of the Texas cities toward the top did not see a significant decrease in home prices during 2008.
