Lakeway's Hospitals
Yes, I said hospitals. A sign went up around a year ago by the post office in Lakeway on RR 620. The sign advertised a hospital. Close to the same time, the big regional hospital near the high school was announced. The big hospital will be a really big deal for everyone from Spicewood and Briarcliff to Hudson Bend and Steiner Ranch. The facility will have just about every medical service anyone can need available. So why the other, smaller hospital?
The Lake Travis Specialty Hospital will be much smaller, with fewer than 50 beds. Like the big hospital, this one will have an emergency room, but the primary focus of this facility will be caring for people who need extended stays to recover from a serious medical condition or a traumatic injury. These will be patients who need care for 25 or more days. Th larger hospital will focus on people who need just a week or less in the hospital.
With the Lakeway Regional Medical Center providing emergency services, surgery and shorter recovery time, the Lake Travis Specialty Hospital will add the long-term care and the two should have some good synergy. Both facilities will be more than welcome to people who currently are at least 25 minutes from an ER.
