I attended PubCon in Austin last week.  PubCon is a conference for people interested in search engine marketing (SEM) and search engine optimization (SEO).  It was interesting to see so many people with Macs and PCs at various seminars.  I saw more Tweetdecks on desktops than I expected to both in the halls and while in seminars.

One thing that was pretty fun was meeting my competition from page 1 of Google.  If you type in the term Austin real estate, a number of real estate websites show up toward the top of page 1.  I met 3 of the top five with me being the fifth.  It was interesting hanging out with a group of people who always watch each other to see where they will rank for certain terms.

I also met a guy I have known from a real estate forum for a while.  When being introduced to Denver real estate agent, Brian Kinkade, I didn't recognize him by name.  Then he handed me a business card and I recognized Brian's avatar from the forum.  Brian know my Austin competition from a seminar they all attended near Vancouver a few months ago.  Interesting bunch of people.

By the way, PubCon was a pretty cool event.  Some of the speakers weren't very engaging, but their information was good.  Matt Cutts from Google gave the keynote on the second day and then had a great Q & A session.  Matt is to people in the SEM and SEO world what Tiger Woods is to golf.  Or if you're a bit older, he is the the EF Hutton - when he talks, people listen.
