Lake Travis Is Rising
Thanks to a Pacific hurricane, Central Texas got some serious rain overnight. Over 9 inches fell near Lake Marble Falls and other areas had from 1 to over 8 inches. As a result, the LCRA Flood Situation Report page shows Lake Travis to be up 5 feet already. That report also shows water to be over the spillway at Inks Lake and one floodgate to be open on Starke Dam, which holds Lake Marble Falls back.
Although this rain isn't good news for anyone prone to flooding, it is excellent news for our area. Lake Travis had been down to its lowest level since the 1950s and our area has been in a very serious drought. Lake Travis has been so low, no public boat ramps have been open for several months. The LCRA typically closes Lake Travis after a rain like this as debris tends to flow into the lake, making boating dangerous. Howe3ver, after the lake opens, the boat ramps are likely to be open again.
Although Lake Travis will still be quite low, this rising water will help us significantly. With a moderate El Nino developing, we could see the lake up another 20 feet or more over the winter months.
