The Lakeway Regional Medical Center is finally moving forward again.  The construction site, which is off RR 620 just north of the Lake Travis ISD Administration building and high school, has been sitting idle for many months.

The group building the hospital has had several hurdles and it looks like they finally have cleared both.  The first was a bill proposed by Congress that would have prohibited hospitals that were to have the majority of ownership by physicians.  That died and construction moved forwarded.  Then the economy took a dive and financing was a problem.  The group developing the facility went to HUD to guarantee their loan and that took a very long time to be approved.

Work on the hospital site is expected to resume within a couple of weeks and hospital is expected to open in April of 2012.  This facility will be great for the Lakeway/Bee Cave/Spicewood area.  The closest hospital right now is around 30-60 minutes from these areas.  Having a major hospital in the area will bring the area new jobs jobs, increase spending in area restaurants and other businesses and should also stimulate the local housing market.
