If you are considering buying Lake Travis waterfront property, you may want to check and see how deep the water is at a property you are interested in.  Many properties on coves will go dry during times of drought.  Some properties on deeper water may not go far enough out into the lake to have water during droughts.  So how can you find out about the depth of Lake Travis at a particular property?

First, get a survey.  If the property is on a cove, the lot may extend to the middle of the cove.  If it on deeper water, see how far out into the lake the property extends.  If you are good with maps, you can go to a page on the LCRA's website to see a Lake Travis Underwater Topography and hazard map.  Another great resource is Spillar Boat docks.  You can call Kyle Spillar at 512-264-1774, give him the address and ask about the depth.  Spillar dominates the market for boat dock construction, installation and maintenance and probably knows the lake as well as anyone.

If you are a seller of Lake Travis property, you may want to know about the depth of the lake at your location, especially if it is very deep.  That can be a great selling point.

By the way, the LCRA page mentioned above will also have other maps showing marina locations.
