Bee Creek Road Improvements
I was at a real estate event in the Lakeway community of Rough Hollow yesterday and heard interesting information from the Communications Director at the Lake Travis ISD, Marco Alverado, and from Travis County Commissioner, Karen Huber.
Marco talked about the rapid growth of Lake Travis schools and the bond election that passed recently. He said that the Lake Travis Middle School will be converted and absorbed into the high school, which is right next to the middle school. Marco also talked of two new school sites. One will be a new Lake Travis Middle School campus somewhere out Bee Creek Road and one will be a new elementary school on the community of West Cypress Hills.
Karen Huber talked about road improvements on Bee Creek Road. Bee Creek Rd. is a pretty slow drive because of the way it winds through the hills west of Lakeway. Karen talked about the county widening Bee Creek to a 4-lane road up to Highlands Blvd., which is the western entrance to Rough Hollow. This will cut a lot of time off the drive to Highway 71. Another significant improvement to Bee Creek Rd. will be a bridge over a dangerous low water crossing as the road crosses Bee Creek. This low water crossing is closed an average of 3 times a year because of flash flooding. Each of these improvements to Bee Creek Rd. will make driving more convenient and safer.
There are some incredible waterfront communities that require home owners to drive Bee Creek Road and the 7-10 mile trip takes almost 20 minutes. I have shown properties in The Coves on Lake Travis and Angel Bay, but most buyers have bought closer in because of the drive down Bee Creek Road. Straightening and widening the road may open those communities up for more buyers.
